About Ecotricity

Ecotricity is an electricity company with a difference - we're dedicated to changing the way electricity is made. We take the money our customers spend on electricity and invest it in clean forms of power like wind energy. What's more, we're the only green electricity company actually building these new renewable energy sources. In 2008 alone, we invested £13.4 million in wind energy - that's the equivalent of £401.49 per capita (customer), more than all other suppliers per capita spend put together (£172.04).

We've been building wind turbines and selling electricity across the country since 1996. We supply people like Lush, the Co-operative Bank and are proud to be recommended by the Soil Association and Oxfam.

The other thing that not many people realise is that we can now all choose who supplies our electricity, and therefore how it's made, so wherever you live in the country you can actually choose to have your home or business supplied by clean energy. The funny thing is switching takes about five minutes but it's the biggest single step you can take to reduce your emissions and protect the environment.

1. We’re the world’s very first green electricity company - established 1995 in Stroud, Gloucestershire. We're a local power company - contributing to the local Stroud economy by providing jobs and using local business suppliers - and we supply mainland UK homes & businesses. 2. Our mission is to change the way electricity is made and used in the UK. 3. We’re a ‘not for dividend’ company. Which means no shareholders or city investors to answer to.

4. We spend more per capita (per customer) building more new sources of green energy than all the other UK suppliers combined! 5. Each year we spend per capita the equivalent of your entire electricity bill building these new sources of green energy.

6. We design, build and operate all our wind parks. Our good neighbour policy means we don't build inappropriately. 7. We’ve built one in nine of all onshore wind projects in England. 8. We believe in a personal approach to customer care and have no automation whatsoever.

9. Earlier this year the Ecotricity Greenbird smashed the world land speed record for wind powered vehicles. 10. We’re building a wind-powered electric car, one to smash the stereotype. We want to throw down the gauntlet to the big car companies.
